Remember who you are, meme consumer.

What is the modern human being but a mere vessel for the constant outpouring of content hosted on this thing that we call the internet? We can log off, touch grass, and attempt meaningful actions in our lives all we want, but the apex of the early 21st-century experience is that sweet, sweet doomscroll in bed time. There are still so many posts to see, and dumb things to react to. We can't start slacking when we have come this far.

Just think what a privilege it is to have this much exposure to the opinions and punchlines of this many people all over the world. Never before has the average individual been allowed this level of access, and while that can get overwhelming, it is also pretty cool. We can make ourselves knowledgeable about subcultures and points of view that we would otherwise have no idea about, or at the very least be entertained by them.

There is also a certain power that comes from being a regular viewer of stuff that is the product of internet culture. The memers and the influencers are the jesters who are constantly performing for us, and we are the royalty who sit on the throne and decide whether we deem them to be palatable or not. The whole online ecosystem is trying to sell itself in a way that is going to make us pay attention for more than 0.5 seconds, and that is something that is worth remembering when we feel down about our screen time. We have the power to make or break this thing.
